Summer, summer, summer, you hot little thing you.
I absolutely love summer, I love getting my legs out, being tanned, wearing flowy dresses and cute sandals. Whether you’re on vacation or staying at home I have some beauty hacks that will keep you fresh & fiery this summer season.
1. Protect Your Skin
It’s a no brainer really, but I don’t think people realise how truly important this is. Everyone wants to be tan, trust me I get it. But the obsession with sunbeds, tanning injections & sitting in the sun till they’re Akon has consequences. Sounds hypocritical as I’m naturally tanned so don’t have the same struggle but still. Ultravoilet rays from the sun and sunbeds can cause so much damage to your skin like wrinkles, freckles, age spots, discolouration and even skin cancer which is beyond scary. Try cut down on the sunbeds as much as you can, wear sunscreen with an appropiate SPF, if you’re prone to sunburn cover up when you can and invest in a good moisturiser! Your skin will thank you, you’ll look youthful and radiant and have less chance of getting skin cancer!
2. Balm Baby, Balm
Lip balm is not just for making your lips look shiny & glossy. It keep them hydrated, moisturised and protected too. If you’re in the sun invest in a gloss/balm that has UV protection. Also try a lip scrub to exfoliate the dead skin from your lips & see how amazing your lips will look.
3. Mask off, Mask on
Do we even need an excuse for a pamper sesh? NO. Run a hot bath, get cosy pjs on, pick a good movie and MASK ON, GET YOUR MASK ON! (Shoutout to Future).
Here’s some homemade DIY face masks you can try;
- Relaxing: 1 tbsp of Raw Honey, 3 Tbsp Greek Yogurt, 2-3 drops of Frankincense essential oil. Frankincense helps reduce the appearance of skin imperfections and promotes feeling of relaxation.
- Exfoliating: 2 tbsp of Baking Soda, 2 tbsp of Coconut Oil, 2-3 drops of Tea Tree. Tea Tree is reowned for its cleansing and rejuvenating effect on the skin.
- Soothing: 3 tbsp Cocoa Butter, 4 tbsp Coconut Oil , 1 tsp Vitamin E oil, 4 drops Lavender. Lavender is often used to remove skin imperfections.
- Refreshing: 1 tbsp Tomato Juice, 2 tbsp Coconut Milk, 3 drops Juniper Berry. Juniper berry acts as a natural skin toner and also reduces the appearance of skin blemishes.
4. Beautiful, Bold Brows
Brows are the main facial statement, they truly shape your face and complete any look. If I had to choose only 3 make-up products to use for the rest of my life, brow definer would definitely be the main one. Without them I AM NOTHING! *cues Whitney Houston song*. For make-up free days, fleeky brows will have your back irregardless. Apply primer or concealer before your brow application as the colour and product will stay on longer.
5. Tame the Mane
If you’re unlucky to have frizzy hair like me, trust me I feel ya. You’ll understand the absolute fear of being in humidity too long or in and out of a pool. Any chance of a good hair day is gone out the window. Investing in a good heat protector spray can help keep curly hair straight before blow drying or straightening. If you have static hair, add a drop of hair serum through your hair starting at the ends and moving your way up. If your rocking an upstyle use some hair gel to sleek the baby hairs down. For me; every 3 months I get a Brazilian blowdry done which is a keratine hair treatment that keeps my hair Kardashian smooth. ITS AMAZING!
6. Make-Up Swaps
I love a full coverage make-up look as much as the next girl but realistically it’s not ideal for hot weather at all! Two hours in the sun and you’re sitting like a melted barbie and blotting like there’s no tomorrow. By swapping a couple of heavy items for lighter options you can still look booootiful in the hot weather.
POWDER FOUNDATION ——-> BB CREAM
DARK POWDER BLUSH ——-> BRIGHT CHEEK TINT
SMOKEY EYE ——-> GLOSSY EYE
DEEP CONTOUR ——-> DEWY BRONZER
LIP LINER & LIPSTICK ——-> LIPGLOSS
POWDER HIGHLIGHTER ——-> STROBE CREAM
There you go gals, you can be a golden goddess this summer with minimal effort.
I’m off to Canada soon where the weather will be over 30 degrees! So these tips will definitely be put to action.
Are you going anywhere nice this summer?
