When it comes to fitness & sports wear, Nike is always my go to brand. From gym clothes, to runners to accessories, they never let you down.
They’ve been around forever but always stay consistent with styles & trends.
Recently they’ve launched something no other sports brand has done before; launch athletic-wear hijabs & also a plus size range.
I’m not plus size myself but I do notice how hard it is for curvier ladies to find nice clothing in their size, normal clothes that is, nevermind sports wear. Because apparently if you’re above a size 16 you don’t work out? Ironic I know. But how can you expect people to want to get in shape if they can’t find nice sportswear they feel comfortable in, and hey everyone wants to feel a little cute!
Nike released a statement explaining their expansion on their sizes:
“Nike recognises that women are stronger, bolder and more outspoken than ever. In today’s world, sport is no longer something that she does, it’s who she is. The days where we have to add ‘female’ before ‘athlete’ are over. She is an athlete, period. And having helped fuel this cultural shift, we celebrate these athletes’ diversity, from ethnicity to body shape.”
I think this is so amazing for Nike to do. Body shaming is something that has become so apparent, especially with everything being online and with social media, trolls have a field day every bloody day! The fact that they’re saying ‘you know what, it doesn’t matter what your body shape is or what clothes size you are, everyone is beautiful and everyone deserves to live an active lifestyle in style.’ Good on ya Nike! So liberating 🙂
Nike’s plus size range ranges from size XL to 3XL and is available in store and online now.
& if Nike didn’t totally outdo themselves with making women of all sizes feel great, they also are working to make women of all religion feel good too!
Nike are releasing their first sports wear hijab called the ‘Nike Pro Hijab’.
The company has collabed with Emrati athletes; such as Amna Al Haddad, Nike+ Run Club Coach Manal Rostom, and Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari, in order to create the perfect product.
It’s created with a single layer of lightweight polyester mesh. It will be on sale in black, vast grey and obsidian with the signature white Nike swoosh above the ear. The fabric’s tiny holes will make it breathable while remaining opaque, a requirement for hijab-wearing women.
Stylish & efficient!
“I was thrilled and a bit emotional to see Nike prototyping a Hijab,” Lari said in a statement. “I’ve tried so many different hijabs for performance, and … so few of them actually work for me. But once I put it on and took it for a spin on the ice, I was blown away by the fit and the light weight.” Figure skater Zahri said in a statement with CNN.
The design process took 13 months, and the final product will be available for sale in by Spring 2018.
This is the first time an American major brand has created a sportswear hijab.
It’s so refreshing to see companies make huge changes in the right direction towards equality, non discrimination and just becoming such a positive example. I hope other companies follow Nike’s steps.
JUST DO IT!
